Tribute & Message From The Family

Dr. Kenneth Stan Friedman, 61, died Thursday, April 10, 2014.
Kenneth was born April 3, 1953 in Rockaway, NYC, NY to the late Arnold and Marilyn Filler Friedman. After graduating High School, he attended Kenyon College for his undergraduate studies. He received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and went back home to New York to complete his residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital. While on staff, he was offered the position of Chief Resident, which he declined to move on to a more tropical life in Port St. Lucie, FL, where he established his own practice. After a time in Florida, Ken decided that North Carolina would be the place for him and he relocated here to Clayton in 2001. He created Cardiology Associates of Johnston County, which gave him the opportunity to serve and love thousands of patients throughout the years.
He loved his medical practice as a cardiologist, boating, and making others happy. He had a great sense of humor and was the most caring and giving man he could be making his bedside manner second to none. He will be greatly missed by thousands whose lives he touched.
Surviving are his twin daughters, Amanda and Marissa, and his best friend, Winston the Great Dane.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m. 2014 at McLaurin Funeral Home 12830 US HWY 70 Business W., Clayton, NC 27520. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27612.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Kind, happy, High spirited, Caring, Friendly, an excellent Cardiologist!
I am saddened because you will not be here to tell me how great I am doing and what excellent heart surgery I had, etc., etc., etc., You were always so encouraging and positive. It does not seem real that you have gone. What Doctor is going to call me sweet heart now? Those words were a part of your dialogue when you knew I, as your patient, needed positive feed back. You were so kind, so professional, and yet accessible. Miss you!

Our mother was Dr. Friedman's patient. She died in 2013. We were shocked and saddened about his passing, as she would have been. He was such a compassionate and kind man. She had so much confidence in him. Belated condolences to his family, as we have just learned of his your loss.

Dr. Friedman was an incredible man and doctor. I considered him a friend. He always took all the time he needed when I was in the office and his sense of humor is unmatched. I moved away from Clayton back home to Florida in Dec of 2011 and saw my doc for the last time prior to the move. It breaks my heart to find out he is gone but I am so grateful that I was blessed enough to have known him.

He was a member of my family for over 50 years. We played together as children, we went boating, I was his best man, we defended each other. There is nothing he would not have done for me, nor I for him. His sudden passing is a great loss for all of his patients, the community, his family, and for me. I will miss him dearly.....like no other. He was the "Rocket Man," I was his Dr. Spock.

Dear Amanda and Marissa,
I work for your dad at his home for ten years. He spoke of you both girls and was very proud of you both. He was a man with a big heart and he was a lot fun. I was always look forward working for him on Fridays and he treated as one of the family. Sorry I can't be there because I'm helping my daughter recover from hip surgery. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I hope Winston goes to a good home because the Doc loved him very much and gave him great pleasure.

You were a wonderful close (bestest as he would say) to our son Jason. He feels an enormously loss without you. Ya'll shared so many good times together in the last 5 to 6 years. You were a 2nd father figure and mentor to him who took him and showed him places and things he would have never gotten the chance to, you made a lot of his dreams - reality. You were a true friend who trusted and believed in him and you were always there for him in the good times and the bad times and he knew you always had his best interest at heart. You will truly be missed and I'm sure he knows you are still looking out for him, a friend like no other. Rest now Ken, it's well deserved!

We moved from Indiana to Garner and my husband has had heart problems related from agent orange (viet-Nam) and he was highly recommended to us by my primary dr. He was the BEST dr. We have had. He was most caring, honest, easy to talk to and made your day when you left. His staff is just as he was caring, curtious, polite, warm and made you feel calm and relaxed, a tribute to Dr. Friedman. He can never be replaced and he will always be remembered in our prayers the Man upstairs has the best physician to look over His flock. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Friedman was the best cardiologist that I have encountered in my life of 63 years.

As a little boy, I had to see many cardiologists because of a ventricular septal defect. I have been to dozens of doctors in my life, but Dr. Friedman was my all time favorite.

He was a rare man who demonstrated kindness to all his patients.

His death will be missed by anyone who had the experience to meet him.

May his soul rest in peace in God's loving arms.

For me - Having grown up on Long Island and in the NY tri-state area, I always kept hoping I would run into another fellow long islander right here in Clayton. I first met the good doctor in 2002 as we were waiting for a haircut at "hair on main" - I sat down next to Ken while waiting my turn to get all trimmed up. Being outgoing as we each were - we found that the 6 degrees of separation theory does exist, and you never know when you will meet someone who can share and understand your mutual life experiences, which in our case developed into a mutual lasting friendship.

As our friendship grew, I became a patient for my annual physical and wellness care and preventative medicine. As life would have it, I was dealt an awful set of conditions over the past 7 years. Ken was there to "quarterback" for me, aligning the right doctors and taking the extra time to make certain my care was being handled to his high standards.

I was due to see Ken in a couple weeks. I visited with him as a patient last september - as he was fighting a frightening case of Pneumonia. We were encouraging each other to pick ourselves up and go forth and conquer.

I am deeply - profoundly saddened and heartbroken - to know that this remarkable man - who gave his very best analysis and treatments for patients, and unconditional person to person interactions with the patients families has left us at this time.

I am so grateful to have known Ken; i am going to miss him dearly,

Dr. Friedman was more than just my doctor, he was my friend. I was his patient for over 10 years, and he would take his time explaining everything to me and and answer all my questions. He would take his lunch late, just to see me on my lunch break, so I wouldn't have to take extra time off from work. He went way beyond the extra mile. I am going to miss him so much. My heart is with the family, and my prayers are lifting you up during this difficult time. You touched many lives Dr. Friedman, and I will never forget you. Rest on you were a good and faithful servant

Dr. Friedman was the best doctor that we've had. I remember the first time I saw him Dec 2008. My heart rate was too high but what I remember most is that he called our home later just to check on me. He and my husband became friends and we were both his patients. He was an amazing doctor and so personable. Our prayers go out to his family, friends and his wonderful staff.
